Cotopaxi Volcano

Discover one of the world's highest active volcanoes: a trip to the spectacular Cotopaxi National Park is a must on your trip to Ecuador. The semi-luna landscapes are one of a kind and tours to Cotopaxi offer a unique experience in your Ecuador tour. Cotopaxi means in the ancestral Kichwa language "Neck of the Moon". This mountain used to be worshiped by the ancestral Panzaleo indigenous people and there are local Panzaleo-Inca ruins in the 30000 hectares National Park. Cotopaxi itself is 5,897 meters high (19,350 feet) and climbing equipment is needed to reach the summit.

Lake Limpiopungo within the park offers some superb bird watching opportunities. And if you are lucky you may also spot condors circling overhead or rare Cara Cara hawks scuttling along the ground. For the active, a mountain biking trip down the volcano is a truly exhilarating experience, or horse riding through these bleak but beautiful landscapes, a once in a lifetime adventure.

We can also organize full day trips starting from Quito or anywhere around, or trekking for 2, 3, 4 and 5 days starting at Pintag village and Sincholagua peak, following the road of the Incas and the pre-Columbians that populated Ecuador.
