Bleak, isolated and stunningly beautiful, the Cajas National Park is located close to the colonial city of Cuenca in the Southern Andes and makes for a very pleasant half-day or day trip.

The park is a wilderness of natural beauty, and at this altitude, hiking here is not for the faint-of-heart. An early morning start is recommended to catch the cobalt blue lakes glistening in the sunshine.

Hiking in the Cajas is possible, or you can just take a day or half a day trip to check it out. It is possible to hike in the Cajas for half a day, 1, 2 or 3 days. Accommodation for overnight hikes will be in tents. After your hike enjoy a steaming hot dish of trout or chicken stew, local-style.
